Best Oppo Phone For 2020

Oppo is fast becoming a powerful player in the smartphone space, filling the void of a top-tier Chinese smartphone maker that doesn't suffer from Huawei's Google app woes. Here's our pick of the best

Want to know what Oppo's phones are all about? We round up the best that the company has to offer to help you pick the right one for your needs.

While Oppo might not be as much of a household name as say, Samsung, in markets like the UK, it drifts in and out of the top five global smartphone brands with regards to market share on a regular basis. As such, it shouldn't be ignored.

Particularly in Europe, the Chinese phone maker has been pushing hard, already having a sizeable foothold in countries like Spain and growing its presence on British shores since its launch into the market in 2019.

We also have suspicions that unless Huawei's current situation, imposed by the US government's entity list, rectifies itself, Oppo is poised to soak up a lot of its rival's market share and take its place as one of the top three mobile brands in the world.

We've already seen a shift towards Western tastes and more competitive devices across the board, with constant reworkings and improvements to its mobile user experience - Color OS - alongside more powerful, capable phones, like its latest 5G flagship, the Oppo Find X2 Pro.

Whether you're after a top-tier device or something more affordable, Oppo offers an assortment of Android-powered smartphones that tick a lot of boxes across a range of price points.

1. Oppo Find X2 Pro
  • £1,099 (about $1,350)
The Oppo Find X2 Pro is a phenomenal phone by any measure. The 6.7in, 10-bit, 120Hz, QHD+ panel is the best display in any phone right now, and Oppo backs it up with the fastest wired charging around at 65W, and a top-tier camera that boasts two 48Mp lenses and up to 10x hybrid zoom.

You’ll have to live without wireless charging, and the choice between bland grey ceramic or garish orange vegan leather finishes might leave some struggling to find a design that suits their style.

For pure performance though, the Find X2 Pro can’t be beat right now, with all of the above plus a Snapdragon 865 5G, 512GB storage, and 12GB RAM - you just have to be willing to pay the price, as at £1,099 it doesn't come cheap.

2. Oppo A9 2020
  • £219.99 (around $285)
The Oppo A9 2020 is a budget handset the manages to excel in multiple areas - with an attractive design, a 48MP quad-camera and a massive 5000mAh battery that outshines even some of the most expensive phones on the market.

It's not without faults, of course. Though the battery life is excellent, there's no fast charging. Though the night mode on the camera is stellar, the user-experience of taking photos really needs refining to be simpler and cleaner.

For the price point, however, you're getting a very good camera smartphone that feels high-end and a device that won't die on you quickly. For these reasons we'd definitely say that the Oppo A9 2020 is a budget contender.

3. Oppo Reno 2
  • TBC
If you already have any other Oppo smartphone, it's probaby not worth splashing out on the Reno 2. For everyone else, it looks like a good option if you want an Android phone with good cameras, excellent performance and long battery.

You may be among those who still do not trust the resilience of motorised cameras. Although we understand your doubts, the wing-shaped design of the Reno 2 seems good and also allows you to have a beautiful screen without notches.

4. Oppo Reno 10x Zoom
  • To be confirmed

The Reno 10x Zoom feels a lot like the OnePlus 7 Pro, but trades that phone's phenomenal screen for a better camera instead - a trade-off that's likely to make sense for a lot of people. It's got top 2019 specs, decent battery, and a slick design - as long as you don't mind the shark fin.

Getting a Snapdragon 855 and a full-screen, notchless display for £699 is a good deal no matter which way you look at it, but the real sell is the triple camera array. With a 48Mp main lens and a 5x optical zoom that can simulate 10x thanks to software tricks, this is one of the few cameras on the market that can rival the Huawei P30 Pro.

The few downsides are that the AMOLED panel is only 1080p, the speakers are a bit wimpy, and ColorOS still feels like a bit of a work in progress - but for most people these will hardly matter at all.

5. Oppo A5 2020
  • £179.00 (around $232 dollars)
The Oppo A5 2020 is a great affordable option without making too many compromises. With a huge 5000mAh battery, a classy exterior design and a big display, you'd find it hard to believe that it's priced at just £179.99.

Of course the quad camera doesn't quite match up to it's rivals - with just a 12Mp main lens and limited options, especially when it comes to low light. However, at this price compromises are expected, and these downfalls don't quite detract from what is a powerful entry-level phone.
