The FlexiSpot MonitorStand Workstation (S6G/S6T) adds some height to your screen that will not only set it at the optimum position for work and video calls, but also protect your neck from vicious strain.
In particular, this stand claims to sort out you general work posture and reduce the risk of Cervical Spondylosis - wear and tear affecting the spinal disks in your neck.
This nasty condition can be caused by looking down for extended periods of time. Next time you are sat at your desk, if you are not already, check out whether you are constantly looking down at your screen with a curved back.
The monitor height should be set so that the top of the screen is at - or slightly below - eye level. Ands your eyes should look slightly downward when viewing the middle of the screen.
The NHS suggests that you may need a monitor stand if your PC or laptop screen is too high or too low and so forcing you to bend your neck.
The FlexiSpot MonitorStand Workstation does a lot more than just raise your screen. It includes a USB charging port, UV disinfection light to keep your mouse and keyboard clean, and a modular partitioned drawer.
It’s quite a bulky piece of furniture (20.5-x-13.6-x-5.3 inches) because it hosts a bunch of handy features, such as a drawer for you to keep your desk clutter free. Stick your pens and pencils, Post-It notes, staples, business cards, cables and paperclips in the drawer and rejoice at the sight of your clear desk in front of your screen.
At the end of the day, you can slip your keyboard and mouse underneath so they don’t get too dusty overnight.
There’s a USB charging port at the left-hand side of the stand, although you’ll need to find a DC5V 2A charger for the stand itself as it doesn’t come with one – something like this will do the job for a few quid.
UV sterilisation light
That power to the stand is also required for its secret and very topical weapon – a UV sterilisation light underneath, which you can use to disinfect your keyboard and mouse and anything else (except your hands) you think is covered in germs.
Think how much you touch your input devices and you’ll understand why tests show they often harbour more microbiology than a toilet seat, with on average nearly 20,000 distinct types of bacteria.
It takes around 10 minutes to sterilise your gadgets, or 20 if you do disinfect both sides, of course.
A Stand That Delivers
It even comes with a few magnets so you can stick notes and photos to the front. And you can also buy accessories, such as a penholder, that stick to the side of the stand.
This stand can take screens from 17 inches to 30 inches, and can handle a weight of up to 22lbs. That means anything from a laptop to a top-end 27in Apple iMac can be placed on top.
