The Braun All-in-one Trimmer 7 is a 10-in-1 styling kit.

What this means takes a bit of working out as Braun maps the ten styling possibilities according to the grooming objective you can achieve with the trimmer, rather than the individual trimmer attachments.

To boil it down, the kit contains a cordless trimmer with a detachable trimmer head, eight further attachments that will either trim or shave hair, and a Gillette Fusion razor with two five-blade cartridges. Four of the eight attachments fit over the trimmer head, and four replace it entirely.

Seven of these attachments will tackle different hair problems, so let’s break it down.

There are two fixed combs that fit over the trimmer head; these will trim hair to either 1mm or 2mm. You can use these combs for stubble or to deal with longer hair that you want to shave off entirely with the foil head attachment.

Then there are two hair combs that also slip over the trimmer head. You can adjust their position in relation to the trimmer head to decrease or increase the trim length of hair. One of the combs will trim from 3-11mm and the other will trim from 13-21mm. You can use these combs for short beards, long beards, or head hair.

Next up is a detail trimmer, an attachment that replaces the trimmer head entirely. It is a 1.5cm long, tooth precision trimmer that allows you to tackle the edges of your moustache, beard, and sideburns.

Its sibling is the foil shaver head, which also replaces the trimmer head. This is a 1.5cm-long foil shaver head for precision shaving that allows you to shave what the detail trimmer trims.

Then there's the ear and nose attachment, which is a 7mm diameter circular trimmer for the hair in your nostrils or ears.

Last in the attachment selection is the body groomer head, which is a 4cm long, basic electric shaver head with two sets of teeth on either side of a foil. You can use this for underarms, legs, chest, and groin; it will also give you a reasonable facial shave. It doesn’t have the head flexibility of, say, a Braun Series 7 or Series 9 electric shaver, but it’s good for what it is.

Finally, there's the Gillette Fusion razor, which is the standard five-blade razor for close wet shaving.

Essentially, this Braun trimmer set is a Swiss army knife and you probably won't use every attachment. You'll need to figure out which head works for what you need to do – and where. But all in all, the set covers every requirement of manscaping, from a wet blade shave to a 2.1cm long trim.

However, this means that if you want to groom your beard or trim hair that's longer than 2.1cm, you'll need another tool.

In The Box

The kit also includes a soft drawstring bag to keep everything in – and you will need it because there are so many attachments – a charging stand, a small dusting comb, and a 117cm cable with an integral plug.

Design And Build

At 17cm long, the trimmer is rigid black plastic with a silver plastic frontispiece and a rubberised thumb pad and power button.

Comfortable to hold, it has a slight ergonomic swerve between the body and trim angle. It isn’t as robust a build as a Braun Series 7 shaver, but to balance it out, you get the trimmer and all the attachments, also rigid black plastic, at a far lower price point. It also comes with a five-year warranty if you register with Braun.

The charging cable has an integral two pin shaver plug, so be aware that the plug will stand 5cm proud of a shaver socket, and about 9.5cm proud if you need to use an adapter to plug into a three-pin British socket.

You can charge the trimmer both on the stand and via the bottom of the trimmer itself. You need to push the plug into the stand properly; it should beep on contact and the light on the front of the trimmer will begin to flash green as it charges.

Braun says a full charge takes an hour, but we made it 50 minutes, and you'll know when it has reached full charge because the light will be a solid green. You can also quick charge for five minutes for a single trimming session.

Features And Performance

In terms of battery performance, Braun says the lithium-ion battery will give you 100 minutes of trimming. The longest testing session we carried out with the trimmer was about 20 minutes, and there was still substantial charge left for several tidy-up sessions, so we suspect 100 minutes is probably a reliable figure.

Different attachments have different noise volumes: the quietest is the ear and nose trimmer, and the loudest is the foil shaver head. Generally, with the trimmer head and an attached comb, you are looking at a very typical electric shaver or trimmer buzz – it's nothing particularly notable.

We found the hair combs that fit over the trimmer head graduate well between the different length settings. It's a manual process: you need to push a button at the back of the trimmer to slide the comb up and down, but it does work, and gives a consistent result. There was no tug or pull at all.

However, at 4cm wide, these combs are narrower than you may find on a specialist hair trimmer, so it does take a mite longer to trim an entire head. Again, if you are trimming down hair that is, say, 4cm in length, the hair can collect under the comb and needs to be swept out with the dusting brush.

The detail trimmer and foil shaver heads are brilliant tools. They pick up hair from those awkward spots just under the nose or jaw, and can really define an edge, particularly around the ears or sideburns, with no nip. They are tools for very short hair though. We found the foil shaver head didn’t pick up hair over 2mm.

The real surprise, though, was the body groomer head. It is a very basic model of shaver head, so we expected average results, but the shave was extremely close. In a fit of experimentation, we tried it for a facial shave, and the testing subject was impressed at the finish.

You can use the trimmer and seven of the eight attachments wet or dry – you can’t use the body groomer head wet. This means you can safely use the trimmer in the shower or rinse it under water for easy cleaning.

Price And Range

We tested the black and silver model, but you can also purchase the All-in-one Trimmer 7 in black or metallic grey.

Pries vary from retailer to retailer, so it's a good idea to check a few outlets before you buy. At the time of writing, the best price we could find is £49 from AO.com. But it's also available at a good price from Robert Dyas and Argos

If you're in the US, Amazon currently has the best price, but it's also available from Wal-Mart for a couple of dollars more.

Braun has a number of trimmers, so if this one isn't quite right for you, you can browse the full list at Braun UK or Braun US.

Braun's range of All-in-one trimmers goes from this 10-in-1 model down to a 7-in-1 model. The difference is the number of attachments, so the 7-in-1 model comes with five attachments, the 8-in-1 comes with six attachments, and the 9-in-1 comes with seven attachments. All come with the trimmer head and Gillette razor.

Braun also does the X Hybrid Trimmer with six attachments. It is primarily a beard trimmer, but also functions as an electric shaver and body groomer, and has 1, 2, 3 and 5mm combs.

There's also a body groomer range, which just has combs: one from 0.5mm with a skin guard, and a sliding comb to trim from 3-11mm.

Or, if you need a focused beard trimmer, Braun does a range with precision wheels for a very accurate length cut, which come with one to four different attachments.

Verdict

The Braun All-in-one Trimmer 7 is a total solution for male facial and body hair. It’s very much a handy, no-fuss multi-grooming tool, and the detail and precision you can achieve is remarkable.

That said, it’s not going to work for men who sport a lumberjack or Victorian door-knocker beard – the combs just won’t give you the trim lengths you require – but for those who have short facial hair and want to keep it sharp and neat, you really can’t go wrong with this Braun trimmer.

It has everything you'll need.
