Football Bread Bowl

This Football Bread Bowl is the perfect dip holder for your Super Bowl Party or any Game Day. You won’t believe how easy it is to make this bread bowl. We will show you how!

Yield: 24 SERVINGS
Prep Time: 10 MINUTES
Cook Time: 30 MINUTES
Total Time: 40 MINUTES

✅ INGREDIENTS

  • 3 rolls (11 oz each) French bread dough
  • 1 egg
  • 1 Tbsp water

✅ INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Unroll one roll of French bread dough and spread it out flat on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet.
  3. On top of the unrolled dough, form a football shape with the two remaining rolls of dough. Do not unroll. Secure the ends with toothpicks so that they don't come apart while baking.
  4. Use a sharp knife or pizza wheel to trim the excess dough around the outside of the football.
  5. Cut thin strips from the leftover dough for the football laces and stripes. Place the stripes near each end of the football.
  6. Form the laces next to the football on the parchment paper. Roll the remaining dough into small balls and place them on the baking sheet. (Use the balls for dipping.)
  7. In a small bowl, beat together the egg and water to make an egg wash. Use a pastry brush to apply the egg wash to the top of the bread dough.
  8. Pre-bake the football bread bowl for 10 minutes. Remove from oven.
  9. Remove the football laces and dough balls from the baking sheet.
  10. Remove toothpicks that are securing the ends. Fill the bread bowl with your favorite dip, such as Ranch BLT Dip.
  11. Bake filled bread bowl for 20 minutes until bread is browned and the dip is hot and bubbly.
  12. Add football laces after the bread bowl comes out of the oven; however, if they need to be more browned, you can add them a few minutes before the bread bowl is finished baking. Watch them carefully.

You can fill this easy Football Bread Bowl with your favorite baked dip recipe.

We filled it with our favorite Ranch BLT Dip for our game day get-together the other day.

This combo was a huge hit!

The dip was super flavorful and the football bowl was super cute.

KEY TO SUCCESS #1 – USE TOOTHPICKS TO SECURE FOOTBALL SHAPE
We’re using three rolls of Pillsbury refrigerated French bread dough to make this easy Football Shaped Bread Bowl.

How simple is that?

Unroll the first roll of dough and flatten it out on a baking sheet that has been lined with parchment paper.

This dough will form the bottom of your football bread bowl.

Take the other two rolls of refrigerated bread dough and DO NOT UNROLL them.

Place the rolled-up dough in the form of a football on top of the flat dough.

Pinch the ends of the dough rolls together to form the points on the ends of the football shape.

Use toothpicks to secure the ends so that they won’t come apart while baking.

The toothpicks can be removed after pre-baking the bread bowl.

KEY TO SUCCESS #2 – USE CARE WHEN BAKING THE LACES
The football laces can be made using the extra French bread dough from the bottom sheet of dough.

Use a sharp knife or a pizza wheel to cut small strips from the dough to make the laces.

When you pre-bake the bread bowl, place the dough for the laces on the baking sheet beside it.

See the image below for an idea of what the pre-baked bread dough and the laces look like.

The laces are so small that they will cook through and brown quicker than the larger football.

Use care that you don’t overcook the laces.

I place the laces on top of the dip after the bread bowl and dip are fully baked.

You have to watch it very carefully so that it doesn’t burn or get too brown.

KEY TO SUCCESS #3 – GREAT OPTIONS FOR FILLINGS
We love to fill our Football Bread Bowl with a simple BLT dip that we’ve amped up with ranch flavoring.

Look for any baked dip that needs to cook for about 20 minutes.

Any dips that fit that bill will be great to use to fill this bread bowl.

After the bread bowl and dip have baked, place the baked football laces on top of the tip.

Use the extra French bread balls or crackers for dipping.

You can also use any crisp veggies for dipping if you want to go a healthier route.
