BUYING TIP
  • The Camry Hybrid SE extends value long past the showroom deal is done.
The 2023 Toyota Camry continues on with a range of powertrains, including an endangered V-6 and a Hybrid with a 52 mpg rating.

What kind of vehicle is the 2023 Toyota Camry? What does it compare to?
The Toyota Camry is a popular mid-size sedan that has been surpassed on freshness and technology by rivals such as the Honda Accord, Hyundai Sonata, and Kia K5.

Is the 2023 Toyota Camry a good car?
America’s bestselling sedan still puts up a fight against more popular crossover SUVs with its range of powertrain options and good standard safety set. The daring design betrays a familiar interior that can only be a Toyota. It earns a TCC Rating of 7.0 out of 10.

What's new for the 2023 Toyota Camry?
The Nightshade Edition black cosmetic package returns on SE models. A black rear spoiler, black mirror caps and black rimmed lighting complements 19-inch alloy wheels that are bronzed, not darkened. Toyota also updated the standard safety tech on this year’s Camry.

The SE Nightshade can be had with the inline-4 or hybrid models, or shoppers can choose LE, XLE, SE, XSE, or TRD models.

TRD models give wings to the hawk-like beak of other Camrys. It adds 19-inch black wheels, a front splitter, rear diffuser, and a black roof, while the XSE keeps the sporty wheels and sport suspension, and comes with a dual exhaust tipped with chrome. From there, the Camry tames down its creases and kinks. The interior overlaps with one side of the dash cascading toward the driver’s side, and separates the front seats with a small knee wall on the passenger side, like in some high end sports coupes.

Skipping over the base but competent 203-hp 2.5-liter inline-4, Toyota pushes sport with one of the few remaining 3.5-liter V-6 engines in the segment. It makes 301 hp and, when coupled with the sport suspension on XSE and TRD models, it’s surprisingly spry. Despite that, the 208-hp Hybrid with a 2.5-liter inline-4 and two motors fits the bill for a calm, quiet, and practical sedan. Front-wheel drive and an 8-speed automatic is standard on gas models, but all-wheel drive is available across the board.

The interior of the Camry seats five, and the front seats are roomy and comfy enough, but the head room trims a bit for rear seat passengers. Still, 38.0 inches of leg room in back provides ample space for average adults, and the 15.1 cubic feet of space in the trunk in hybrid or gas models is above average for a sedan.

Earning top marks in the industry’s toughest crash-test criteria, the Camry is a perennial Top Safety Pick+ recipient from the IIHS and gets a top five-star designation from the NHTSA. Standard safety features include automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, active lane control, adaptive cruise control, a rear-seat reminder, and automatic high beams.

How much does the 2023 Toyota Camry cost?
Pricing hasn’t been announced for 2023, but expect it to be a bit higher than the $27,000 to $37,000 range of the 2022 model. Standard features include LED lighting, cloth seats, a 7.0-inch touchscreen with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Amazon Alex compatibility, and a satellite radio trial. Options range from a 10.0-inch head-up display to wood dash trim.

All Camrys come with a 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty with two years or 25,000 miles of factory scheduled maintenance.
