Chocolate Covered Cherry Hearts

These Chocolate Covered Cherry Hearts were born from an accidental purchase but they turned into the best idea for a Valentine’s Day treat.

Holiday-themed food always tastes better and these cherry hearts are no exception.

If they weren’t shaped like a heart right around Valentine’s Day, they probably wouldn’t even be worth eating.

But once you dip them in chocolate, they become something irresistible.

KEY TO SUCCESS #1 – DON’T OVERHEAT THE CHOCOLATE
We’re using dark chocolate candy melts in this easy recipe because they melt smoothly and they’re much easier to work with than real dark chocolate.

When you are melting real chocolate, it can be a bit finicky and tends to overheat easily.

Chocolate candy melts taste great and are super easy to work with.

Melt the chocolates in the microwave on HIGH power for 1 minute then stir well.

If the chocolate is not fully melted, put it back in the microwave for another 15 seconds and then stir again.

At this point, you should be mostly stirring until the chocolate is smooth.

All microwaves are different so you may need to continue heating the chocolate, but be cautious not to overheat it.

If the chocolate starts to harden while you are using it, pop it back into the microwave for an extra 15 seconds until it is liquid again.

KEY TO SUCCESS #2 – PLACE THE HEARTS BOTTOM SIDE DOWN
I highly recommend the Brach’s Jube Jel Cherry Hearts brand candy for this recipe.

They are the perfect pink color and a great consistency for chocolate dipping.

Take a careful look at the hearts and you’ll notice that they have a definite top and a definite bottom.

When you dip them in the melted chocolate, make sure you are placing them on the waxed paper on their backside.

The completed product will be much prettier if they are placed with the top side up and the bottom side down.

The chocolate will be smoother and the drips will be much less evident.

KEY TO SUCCESS #3 – PERFECT VALENTINE’S DAY PRESENTATION
Chocolate Covered Cherry Hearts are a great option to share with friends.

Once the chocolate is dried and firm, they can easily be stacked and stored.

You can place a few chocolate covered cherry hearts in a pretty Valentine’s Day cellophane treat bag for gift giving.

Cellophane treat bags are easy to find at your local craft store like Michael’s or you can sometimes find them at big box stores.

These cute little treats can be stored in an air-tight container for several weeks.

You can keep them in your candy dish all season long right up until Heart Day.
